Record Group exhibition, August 26 - 27th
Posted 7/9/18

Our Record Group exhibited on the Sunday and Monday of the August Bank Holiday weekend. This was a success, with over 130 visitors. Stan Bewick was greatly assisted by Rachael Sewell in selecting prints and Howard Wilson also helped to set the exhibition up.
Guests invited included Dr Tom Littlefield and his wife Ruth. Tom is the son of Dr Littlefield who was a president of this society in the 1950s (see Officers of the Society page).

Howard took some photos during the exhibition:

Video Film-making Group presentations on 30th April
Posted 7/5/18

Trevor Ermel writes:

The Video Film-Making Group held its annual Presentation Night in the club rooms on 30th April, at the end of another interesting and entertaining season.

Nine members enjoyed an informal meal of fish & chips and watched a selection of our latest films (including 'The Critic' - a one minute comedy written by Group Chairman David Peffer, which gained a very creditable four-star rating in a recent International Film Competition), as well as seeing the presentation of trophies and certificates to the four film-makers who had been successful in the various competitions. With two keen new members and the expected influx of one or two more from another nearby video club which is having to close at the end of May, we hope the competitions will attract a larger number of entries next season.

The trophies were shared by John Burton (winner of the Bucas Cup for the Holiday Competition), Reg Checkley (joint winner of the Nichol Cup for the most films entered in competitions) and Trevor Ermel (winner of the Richardson Cup for the Open Competition, the Christy Cup for the Holiday Competition, the George Draper Shield for the Annual Competition, the Dawson Rose Bowl for the highest aggregate of marks awarded for overall results, the Kip Halsey Memorial Cup for the film having the best nature content and also joint winner of the Nichol Cup), with Steven Wears also awarded a placings certificate.

The picture (taken by John Cook) shows Reg Checkley, John Burton, Steven Wears and Trevor Ermel together with Chairman Dave Peffer (in the centre) who presented the trophies.

Presentation Night (10th May) & Exhibition (12-13 May)

  • There will be visitors at the Presentation Night and we always have a buffet. Contributions to the buffet from members are sought. Margaret has a list: please note on it what you can provide, at the next meeting.
  • It is planned to show a looping AV after the presentations and during the exhibition. We would like it to include an image from as many members as possible. We already have some from those who entered PDI competitions during the season but other members can submit an image to Graham (gr[at]grelf[dot]net) - preferably resized to fit competition format: 1400 x 1050. The loop will also include short items from the Video Film-making Group.
  • The exhibition is open from 10am to 4pm on the Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers are sought for 2-hour shifts to keep an eye on things. Please inform the committee through the contact page or at the next meeting if you can help.

Annual NCPF result
Posted 17/4/18

Howard Wilson writes:

The results of the NCPF Annual Competitions have just been released. In the club competitions, suffice to say we did not do very well. Individually though, we have some successes. Here are the highlights. Apologies if I have missed anything.

Dorothy Wilson achieved 3rd place and 15 with her PDI 'Bluebell Girl' in the Jane Black (Beginners) trophy.

Rachael's Wedding
Posted 8/4/18

Howard writes:

A few quickly taken pictures of Rachael arriving for her wedding at the Grand Hotel - in style - this lunch time [7th]. It was really wet and dreary weather and she was in a hurry to get in but for a few seconds her usual smile lit up the whole of the seafront. I just loved her transport.

We wish her and husband Morgan all the very best for the future.

North Tyne Projected Image Competition
Posted 29/3/18

Howard writes:

The North Tyne Area Projected Image competition was held tonight [27th March], hosted by North Shields Club

I am pleased to tell you that we came out joint winners with North Shields, with 208 points for our 8 entries. Eight of our members attended and I am pleased to say that Diana Hilton had a camera with her. See the attached picture of the judge (Jim Welsh), Bill Fell of North Shields - and me. This was an extremely tight competition and it came down to the last picture shown to decide the outcome. There were only 4 points dividing the top 6 clubs, with Wallsend 10 behind 6th.

Our scores:

  • I can see you - Robin Sinton 25
  • Panorama Loch Etive - John McGuinness 27
  • Harvest Mice - Keith Hildreth 25
  • Out Of Season - Arthur Smith 24
  • Arctic terns in Flight - Paul Myers 28
  • Working Hands - Howard Wilson 26
  • Portrait of a Lioness - Keith Hildreth 27
  • Derwentwater Blues - Arthur Smith - 26

The top picture was Bucking Bronco by Richard Narcross of Whitley Bay Society. Well done to him also.

We also congratulate North Shields as joint winners.
