Practical Group

The New Practical Group was started in September 2023 - the purpose of the group will be to provide practical hands-on experience of various aspects of Photography. Hopefully it will provide the opportunity to try a genre of photography you may not have tried before. It is intended that members with knowledge in the various subjects will be on hand to give guidance and demonstrate any equipment that may be required during the evenings.
Practical Group meetings will normally be held in the club-rooms in Howard Street, on the last Tuesday of each month, starting at 7:30 until 9:00. Although these times can be flexible to reflect what we are doing and members' requirements.
Dates for Meetings 2025-26
To ensure the evenings are a success, many of the more experienced members of T.P.S., with knowledge in the various disciplines have agreed to assist in the running of the meetings and to pass on their knowledge.
The week before the meetings an email will be sent out giving more details of the evening and any equipment required.
As with all the groups, the Practical Group is member driven with each member playing an active roll in contributing ideas for the meetings.

- Tue 30 Sep 25 - 'Composition tips in practice’ We will look at some compositional ideas and then go out and put them into practice.
- Tue 28 Oct 25 - Processing evening – how to achieve a 'Triptych' or ‘Panel of 3’ in our members' various software packages, plus help and advice on general processing.
- Tue 25 Nov 25 - How to print your work - ways to print your work, preparing the file, what is colour management, paper choices, inks, mounting.
- Tue 27 Jan 26 - Flash photography / workshop on creating black & white portraits. using flash as the light source.
- Tue 24 Feb 26 - How to go about making a zine of your work.
- Tue 24 Mar 26 - Making a pinhole camera using a body cap.
- Tue 28 Apr 26 - Designing a personal photographic website using Weebly.
